Congratulations to NT Security’s Nick Tinsley on a Quarter-Century in Physical Security
There are careers. And then there are callings.
For Nick Tinsley, founder of NT Security LLC, physical security was never just a job. It was a passion. This year, Nick hit a milestone most people never reach — 25 years in the business, doing work that actually matters.
Analog Cameras and a Whole Lot of Cable
Nick got his start in 2001. Back then, the industry was still mostly analog. Black-and-white cameras. Chunky coaxial cable. VCR-based recording systems.
“I remember very distinctly, twenty-five years ago, the gear was black and white — actual analog equipment. Look at where we are now.”
— Nick Tinsley
His early years were spent as a contractor and installer, soaking up everything the hard way. One big chapter? Running hundreds of miles of cable for large retail chain rollouts. Big. Complicated. Unglamorous.
“I got to see how massive surveillance infrastructure is built from scratch,” he says. Not easy. But it built a foundation that no classroom can teach.
He Started NT Security in 2008 and Never Looked Back
After years working for others, Nick took the leap in 2008 and launched NT Security LLC.
The idea was simple: low-cost, high-quality solutions built for each client’s situation. Car dealerships, schools, medical offices, HOAs, commercial properties — Nick approaches every job the same way.
Understand the situation. Design the right solution. Do it right the first time.
“What I enjoy most is being able to use my creativity. I like playing with things, understanding things, researching things. I like trial and error — I like making mistakes and figuring out what works. That’s how you really learn.”
— Nick Tinsley
Milestone: Recognized as Innovation Partner of the Year in 2025
At the 2025 Global Cloud Security Summit in Austin, Brivo and Eagle Eye Networks named NT Security their Innovation Partner of the Year, recognizing the company’s pioneering work integrating vape detection systems with cloud-based access control and video surveillance in Georgia schools. It’s the second major industry award for the company, following the Brivo Access 2023 Global Sales award.
“Thank you Brivo and Eagle Eye Networks for awarding NT Security Innovation Partner of the Year,” said Nick. “I also would like to extend a special thanks to my team — this would not have been possible without them.
NT Security Cameras Catch a Murderer
Ask Nick about the most memorable moment of his career. He won’t bring up his biggest contract.
He’ll tell you this story:
NT Security installed a license plate reader system at a client location in the Shady Grove area. Not long after the install, that system captured the plate of a vehicle connected to a murder investigation. The footage helped crack the case.
“We installed a license plate reader system, and it helped capture a murderer. That’s the kind of thing that reminds you why this work matters.”
— Nick Tinsley
When a system is designed and installed right, it doesn’t just record footage. It protects communities.
Check out our earlier post on how neighborhood cameras helped catch a killer. It’s a good one.

Building a Team He’s Proud Of

As NT Security has grown, so has the team around Nick. Today, the company operates with skilled technicians and contractors—people Nick is deeply invested in mentoring. Among his proudest commitments is his support for veterans through the Wounded Warrior program, giving men and women who served their country a meaningful path into the security industry.
“Those guys—that’s what I know,” he says of the veterans on his team. “I really enjoy teaching my guys. I enjoy passing on everything I’ve learned over the years.”
— Nick Tinsley
Having a strong team has also freed Nick to focus on what he loves most: the creative, problem-solving side of the business. With people he trusts handling day-to-day operations and customer service, he can pour his energy into designing elegant solutions and pushing the technical envelope for clients.
With a strong team in place, Nick can focus on what he loves most: the creative, problem-solving side of the business.
25 Years In, and He’s More Fired Up Than Ever
Nick has watched this industry change beyond recognition. Black-and-white analog cameras gave way to digital. Digital gave way to IP networks, then cloud storage, mobile monitoring, and now AI-powered video analytics.
He’s not just watching. He’s using it.
And he’s got a clear take on what it means: more sophisticated tech needs more trained people to run it.
“As AI takes hold, there’s going to be an even higher demand for qualified people to work on these more complex solutions. The curve is only going up.”
— Nick Tinsley
His advice to young people getting into the field? Don’t skip the hands-on time.
“It’s important to get a good education,” he says, “but there’s no substitute for time in the field. You need both.”
By his own count, Nick has logged somewhere around 100,000 hours of field experience. That’s not a typo.
The Goal Hasn’t Changed
Twenty-five years. Hundreds of job sites. Thousands of cameras. Miles of cable. One thing has stayed the same the whole time:
“The goal is always to give the client the best solution for their situation. That hasn’t changed in 25 years.”
— Nick Tinsley
Congratulations, Nick! Here’s to the next 25!
